For the few who don't understand the dancing, it's sinister, in the tradition of the original Twin Peaks series, when the possessed serial killer did Fred Astaire-like dances. Here the cardinal is doing a sort of homage to "Singin' In the Rain," only the puddles are blood, not water. It's macabre. And it suggests disease, as in St. Vitus' Dance, a symptom of Sydenham's chorea. Nothing campy about this -- it's horror for those with eyes to see.

Your last paragraph touches on something that I know a lot about. I believe that European Jews survived because of their desire to stick together, although because of the lack of a homeland it put your people at odds with native populations in Europe. Your attitude about survival is something that should be allowed for all people, but I think mostly because of one Austrian with a funny mustache, this standard only applies to you, and not me. We're not allowed that. Also, it's strange but there's a great many of your people behind this, and the mass immigration, and CRT, censorship, and everything else etc.. that's in the social consciousness today. You should know what I mean. It's really not fair, two wrongs don't make a right. I see the writing on the wall, so to speak. Just thought I'd point out that double standard.
Anyway, as far as not lumping the three faiths together, I know that you don't seem to really believe your stories, like I'd find in the old testament, but I need to be clear. No one group has gone though the ages being totally innocent. I am also sure that there is some truth to the stories. Hell, even Homer's epics have some truth to them. Not to mention, but a lot of the boneheaded values that fundamentalists have, come from the O.T.
Lastly, I'm not going to get into it, but I have some personal experience, and actually do know what I'm talking about when it comes to the god behind all three faiths. I am really afterall, talking about him specifically, and the responsibility for the evil in the world is totally his.
I love how the last 30 seconds of this song exist as an incredible starting point for an entirely different song.
Yet Ghost has so much going for them, they just integrated it at the end of this song instead, as if that riff doesn't go HARD.

@ZvenDieArschFicker666 That riff is actually in two other Ghost songs, it's played on synths at the end of Ashes which opens the album but it was also played on strings in Spöksonat from Meliora three years earlier so it was a hell of a build up to it

@Julian Kirby I am here to listen to amazing music but yea, counting the fact that both liberal and conservative news covered BLM riots...I think the percentage is off unless you are counting college level BLM protests that had maybe 20 people attending, either way just be open to listening to both to get the full side instead of one...otherwise you are both as culpable as the other side.

I'm 52 and an old school metal head. Love these guys and wish people my age would support the future generations of hard Rock. These guys also do a great job of incorporating 70's and 80's gothic music into their sound.

It's a really good example of how a great solo does not at all have to be extremely note-dense or complicated.
Tobias has the art of composing meaningful solos down,not everyone can do this
4 years later and this song still fucking kills. I can't decide between jazz hands, moshing, headbanging, or dancing. I think that's why I love it so much. Musically it invokes all these different feelings and it's just fucking glorious. I almost peed my pants seeing it live twice. Long live Ghost 👻
Very underrated guitar playing and composition. Just discovered these guys and I'm very happy I did. What a great ensemble and theatrics.

@Yes it's a very fair question. I just feel that the guitar playing is overlooked from what I could gather with all my information at the time. Not saying I was right or wrong. By saying "Just discovered" , I didn't literally mean that very second. So thats my bad my dude if I made it seem like I knew more than I intended. But great band either way. 🤘

@Andrew Klein I've heard the vocals are sometimes harder to hear live from some people I know. Was that true in your case? I've been to good shows and bad...every band has bad shows, it happens. It would be unfair for me to assume a band is going to be mentally, physically, and emotionally happy all the time. Got caught rambling a bit, lol. Your comment just shows a lot of insight on how far they're willing to go live so i thought I'd ask. :D

This band grows on you like cancer! The first couple listens your like ok. This is good. Then you want more. Before you know it you can’t get the songs out of your head! I wouldn’t be surprised if they really did a deal with the devil and their songs are like spells! Cause damn I can’t get enough!

I am not tired of this video. It has a catchy riff, a memorable chorus, the video has epic takes and choreography. And above all, it has an epic ending.
Somehow, a clean and nonthreatening voice telling me that my cities will be burned, my loved ones will suffer the eternal wrath of God, my soul will be eaten by filthy rodents... is *way* more menacing than a death metal vocalist saying the same thing.

Funny you bring it up...Tobias has said in many interviews that seeing the musical Cats on stage as a teenager was a big influence on him, as was seeing Phantom of the Opera. He's a fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber and he always intended his band to be theatrical like musicals.
And the name of this band makes sense when you realise the Phantom is referred to as the opera GHOST.
Also elements of Tobias' stage appearance and makeup possibly takes cues from the Phantom. The Phantom in the novel is described as having a face like a skull; a "death's head". Also the Phantom wears a mask to hide his face.

I'm just getting into Ghost and at the 0:42 I started to feel like I had heard this song before then it hit me. My local Rock/Metal station plays this song all the time.
All the different styles of music out there and Ghost still manages to be unique...being a musician myself, that is very impressive. Being original isn't that easy...have to give credit where its due. \m/

Just discovered this band like three days ago and I'm hooked! I don't even know how to categorize them, is it metal? Pop metal? Opera-Gothic-pop-metal? Who cares really as long as I'm enjoying it so much!

Love it or hate it, you have to be intrigued by their musical direction. I hear and see allusions so many of the harbingers of hard rock, to include Merciful Fate, Judas Priest, Queen and also rock opera like Rocky Horror and Meatloaf. Everything with Ghost is so methodical and calculated. While I'm not the biggest fan of the traditional heavy metal vein that's so heavily cited here, I have a sincere appreciation of what they're doing and the story they're weaving. It's all part of this overarching narrative and it's so unlike anything anyone is currently doing. And this track gets better with every listen.
It's a sharp departure from their previous sound. I don't know how anyone could argue with that.
@Alex Rogers: Yeah, I know it's mostly Tobias Forge, but no one aside from those in Ghost know exactly what scope the others contributed to the writing -- that's all just speculation. In the older stuff, you could definitely hear more of the old "Magna Carta Cartel" sound, which is all-but-absent in this particular piece.
And the illusion is supposed to be that a new persona takes control of the band and musical direction with each iteration. Whether or not that's all Tobias or not is anyone's guess, but they certainly have re-invented the sound for each album and consequential tour. I'm eager to see what's on the rest of the album.

Ghost has turned into one of those bands that has an abundance of "that extra special something" that makes them unique and enticing. The vast majority of bands do not have this. Metallica had it with Master of Puppets. Emperor had it, especially with Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk. Alice in Chains had it with Dirt. This "special something" is different for each band, and is highly subjective for the listener. But whatever it is, Ghost has it in spades. I used to think they were boring. But they keep growing.

Meh.. it’s been done... Is this Alice Cooper, King Diamond, Danzig or Marilyn Mansion? Really it’s been done before. “Hey lets degrade and spit on religion mainly Catholics. The band members are “nameless Ghouls” I bet them checks got names on em’. Catchy songs but it’s ALL been done and played out before. No staying power with them.
